Unbound Symphony, in collaboration with the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center, is collecting survey responses to get a better sense of the actual harm caused by gender discrimination and sexual harassment. It was authored by Katie A. Berglof, and as far as I know, is the first of its kind to look at the full effects of these phenomena: so, not just the initial trauma, but the cascade that happens afterward.

Longtime readers of this page will have seen the effects of that cascade in real time without knowing what was occurring behind the scenes. Know this: I didn’t stop getting studio work because I wasn’t good enough or didn’t enjoy it—it is a thrilling, highly lucrative job and it was taken away for reasons other than my playing. I didn’t move across the country for fun. I didn’t lose an entire network of well-paying gigs, connections, friends, and financial security because I had done something wrong. I can’t redo the last 20 years and goddess knows I’ve made mistakes, but perhaps I can make the next 20 more purposeful by engaging in this work.
