Hey all: it’s been a ghost town around here of late. Sure, I’m working on a giant post about breathing, and also have a good chunk of the next book in the hopper, but the reality is that I’ve been struggling with this chronic pain stuff. I’m going from PT person to chiropractor to sports massage, and the only thing that is definite is they all drain my bank account. I know hopelessness doesn’t do the body any good, but my reserves are on low, my friends.

So I turn to you: what’s going on in your world? How’s your practice? Have you learned something you think is worth sharing? Even if it’s something small? I would love to hear from you, and if you’d like, you can even write a guest post if you want to share with the couple thousand folks who regularly scan this page.

My heart could really use some good news and cello-y inspiration! Comment or email me: contact (at) emilywright (dot) net.

  1. I have recently started to be much more aware of my bow hand. My wrist is more fluid, and movements just flow where before they were more contrived. I can’t say why this has happened now, or why it took 9 years to suddenly start feeling natural. I guess when one is learning an atypical (un-natural) motion such as bowing a cello, one should expect it to feel odd for while.

My hope is that this new found ease with the bow will translate into being able to play at a faster tempo. I’ve been aware for some time that my “porky pig” sounds (ba-de-de-de-de) were caused by the right hand and not the left. But even when I focus on the right and and let the left run on autopilot, I never seem to get the two in sync with each other at speed.

Maybe someday I’ll look forward to the Allegro movements and not just the Largos.

  2. hmm…I found a great teacher several months ago and even though my progress seems slow, I am satisfied with the path that I am on.
