  1. I abhor comment-less blog posts, so I just HAD to say something. I won’t pretend to totally understand this video, but it did spook me a bit – I kept thinking something terrible was about to happen, and kept cringing with every pass. Whew! Nothing happened! NICE!

  2. This was one of the Red Bull air racers buzzing the tower, much to the delight of the controllers. These guys are hugely skillful and precise, and although the maneuver is less than legal, he is one of the few people who can pull it off. As an aviation junkie, this clip is as exciting as it is touching: he is doing that just because he knows the folks in the tower (who work so, so hard under enormous pressure) will get a kick out of it. I am lucky to land on the correct runway, and this guy can come within 6 inches of a tower. I have a long way to go!

  3. OMG – not to sound obsequious, but . . . so not only do you play the cello at an amazingly high level, but you are are a PILOT as well??? I’m always amazed at the diverse interests/talents of fellow cellists – that is SO cool Emily!!!!

  4. Oh, I am a student pilot. Like, my skills as a pilot are cello-equivalent to playing a C scale but hitting F# on the D string and then the endpin falls off and the police come at the end.

I’m pretty solid on the cello. But you will be too, if you spend 25 years playing every day. 🙂
