A teeny tiny part of me dies when I see pics like this and realize I'm still on the East Coast!

Looks like you saw a few things 🙂

I did! The drive through Arizona nearly killed me, though. 5 hours of not much except aggressive cops who want to give me a ticket for going a measly 21 MPH over the posted limit. 🙂

I love long distance drives – and those treks through the desert are my favorites… you can see forever.

We've had to stay home these past few summers since our son insists he's now "too old" for these long "boring" vacations. But we look forward to getting back on the road again once he's in college.

I try to avoid the interstates as much as possible but I know well that climb out of Las Cruces on I-10 with all those cheesy billboards.

Something about long distance drives. Being neither here nor there, is a nice suspension from responsibility.

What happens if a cello is brought into "the thing?" Can you make trans-dimensional music?

I didn't even know they HAD speed limits out there in the middle of no where! And how in the world did you talk yourself out of the ticket? I just can't see you breaking out the crocodile tears (but I could be wrong! lol).

Ack! I tried posting a comment here and it ate it yesterday. Let's see if I can do it today. MT: it's funny you should say that. I had none of that freewheeling ease of mind on this trip. Instead, I felt this crushing pressure to decide what the next few years of my life was going to look like over the space of 2 days. Move to Las Cruces? Stay in LA? Grad school? This fall or next? Oh, and I know you probably see it on Twitter, but being forced to find another apartment in the next 10 days is also a little hectic, especially if I end up uprooting altogether shortly in the future.

I bet you can her it in my tone! I'm freaking out! 🙂

And as for you BK: I didn't get a ticket and was never stopped. And no, I wouldn't break out tears, even if I really felt like crying. I have been stopped for speeding a few times, and the fact that I am conciliatory and willing to comply without argument or a sense of entitlement has gotten me out of all of them. "You're just doing your job, officer" seems to garner more sympathy than "But I'm late to a manicure and having a bad day" 🙂
